Foreign Object Removel
Foreign object removal from the esophagus and stomach is typically done using an endoscopic technique called esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). This procedure involves using a flexible, lighted tube with a camera attached (endoscope) to view the inside of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
During the procedure, the endoscope is passed through the mouth and down the throat into the esophagus and stomach, allowing the doctor to see any foreign objects that may be causing a blockage. If a foreign object is found, specialized tools can be used to remove it.
EGD is a safe and effective way to remove foreign objects from the esophagus and stomach, and it is commonly used by gastroenterologists for this purpose. It is a minimally invasive procedure that typically does not require general anesthesia, and patients can usually go home the same day.
